Program’s Study Plan, Academic Quality assurance and Teaching & Learning

Dentistry, like other professions, is in a constant state of flux, with research and development contributing to the natural progression and evolution of the specialty. It is therefore vital that new and emerging concepts are brought into the curriculum for the benefit of the community which the profession strives to serve.

Based on the guidelines/requirements of professional bodies or relevant accrediting agencies with the National Qualifications Framework, our program’s study plan follows the rules of the yearly figures, as the college education system is based on problem-based learning. Study language is English. Study duration is five years after the preparatory year followed by a clinical training internship year.

The general structure of the study plan consists of 179 credit hours which is evenly distributed over 5 years of learning comprising 42 courses (30 compulsory courses and 12 elective courses). These credit hours are programmed through Four Primary Departments (Restorative Prosthodontics & Periodontology, Public Health & Pediatric Dentistry, Maxillofacial Surgery & Diagnostic Sciences, and Oral & Medical Biosciences). We have constituted Courses for academic programs which are integrated vertically. The Program courses are mapped and distributed well over the program periods with proper weightages to make the students competent by the end of the program. Block organizers and their teams monitor the course program meticulously, and if needed they develop/modify the program and implement the changes with the consent of higher authorities. They make sure that the program meets the highest standards with respect to general structure of the study plan by monitoring the KPI’s and Benchmarking on the basis of the Course reports with the statistical data, Monitoring the course reports & the annual program report, Conducting surveys of opinions of students about a sample of courses every semester & analyzing the conducted surveys.

The institution has constituted several committees (Dental education unit, clinical practice unit, Quality assurance unit, Academic advising unit, Student’s advisory unit, infection control unit, treatment plan unit, professionalism unit, etc.) to organize, guide, direct and evaluate the performance of the students to meet the highest standards of Intended Learning Outcomes. At the end of every semester the students are assessed for their competency level based on objective and subjective evaluations to meet the program objectives and at the same time their achievements are assessed by internal & external bench markings, and if required the areas of improvements are detected and recommendations with action plans are submitted to the concerned authorities for implementations.

The college not only tracks its students’ involvement in various social activities that promote citizenship roles but encourages their participation in such undertakings. The college believes that the community is an equal partner in spreading awareness on oral health and disease. The mission of the college is to foster strong community relationships through services and linkages and provide efficient, effective and community acceptable system that excels in education and service. Through the college’s collaborative extension activities and outreach programs, the community receives free oral health education, have their dental health problems identified and also obtain free Oro-dental health treatment.

We must realize the importance of education. We must aim to ensure that each citizen of our nation is educated and independent, Insha Allah.
